Supervision is a must for counsellors and psychotherapists. It is mandatory for members of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and PACFA, for counsellors to have regular supervision. I am a member of the ACA College of Supervisors. I receive regular supervision as a counsellor and as a supervisor.
I am a huge fan of supervision. Without supervision we can have blind spots in our approaches, our ethical perspective – and easily fall into the trap of thinking that we know more than we do. Supervision is a place in which to safely reflect on these things. It’s also a place in which to identify and reinforce our passion for the work that we do.
If we are working in private practice, we can become isolated and find ourselves working in a bubble without the benefits of reflecting with peers. If we are working in organisations, external supervision allows us an opportunity to not only reflect on our practice but to also reflect on the way the organisation we are working in is influencing our practice.
Supervision should be a creative place in which to strengthen what we do. It should be a safe place in which to clarify dilemmas that surface with clients, with employers, ignite our love for the work we do and regularly check on our perspectives – and our own work-place health and well-being.
I am a flexible, client-focussed supervisor, have worked in the fields of complex mental health, substance use, homelessness, elder abuse, refugee and asylum seeker well-being, with those questing for self-discovery and self-exploration and more, in private practice and with multiple organisations.
I love what I do and hope to be a catalyst for those I work with to keep falling in love with the work that they do.
Please feel free to contact me to see if we are a good fit.
